Lahore: December 29, 2011. (PCP) Hundreds of Christian Social and Human Rights organizations have appealed Dr. Nazir S Bhatti, President of Pakistan Christian Congress PCC to file his nomination on seats reserved for minorities in Senate of Pakistan from Province of Sindh and Balochistan in upcoming Senate elections of March 2012.
The Pakistani Christian Civil Society activists in e-mails and phone calls recognized that Pakistan Christian Congress PCC led by Nazir S Bhatti was only Christian political party to demand representation of Christians and other religious minorities in 1985, and kept pressing on this demand for decades.
In 18th Amendment of Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan in 2010, it was decided to increase seats of Senate of Pakistan from 100 to 104. The additional 4 seats were allocated for religious minorities for first time in history of Pakistan in 2012 Senate of Pakistan elections.
These 4 seats for minorities in Senate of Pakistan are distributed each with four provinces of Pakistan, Punjab, Sindh, KPK and Balochistan.
The Senate of Pakistan constitutes equal representation of 25 seats each from four provinces which are elected by members of provincial assemblies to total 100 Senate seats.
The Pakistani Christians are writing Dr. Nazir S Bhatti to file his nomination from Sindh or Balochistan provinces in March 2012, elections of Senate of Pakistan to raise voice for persecuted and oppressed Christian nation which is silenced after assassination of Shahbaz Bhatti.
Dr. Nazir S Bhatti is in exile since 1998, after fabricated cases of murder, blasphemy and conspiring against government, total in number 21, registered against him in three police stations of Karachi within two hours’ time in year 1997, when he was leading a protest procession where police opened fire and shelled tear gas killing one Christian, injuring dozens and arresting more than one thousand.
There were widespread rumors in Pakistani media and Pakistani Christians after assassination of Shahbaz Bhatti former federal minister for minorities that Dr. Nazir S Bhatti will replace him in National Assembly of Pakistan seat but same were denied by Nazir Bhatti as he said that he will not contest seat in National Assembly under Selection system for minorities which is undemocratic and will take part in elections of Assemblies when Christians will be given again Election system on these by Christian votes. |
