Government of Pakistan letter about health of blasphemy victim Asia Bibi is unsatisfactory

Karachi: July 25, 2015. (PCP) Dr. Nazir S Bhatti, President of Pakistan Christian Congress PCC has demanded formation of an independent Medical Board for examination of Asia Bibi, a Christian mother of 5 and charged under blasphemy laws who is waiting for action on her appeal in security cell of Multan Jail against death sentence in Supreme Court of Pakistan which is admitted for hearing. Dr. Nazir Bhatti said that urgent e-Mail sent by Imran Rashid, Section Officer in Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, Government of Pakistan, on health of Asia Bibi is unsatisfactory and biased in which its stated that according to Jail Doctor and Jail Superintendent “It has been reported that health of condemned prisoner Mst. Asiya Bibi w/o Ashiq Masih confined in Women Jail, Multan has been assessed by General Physician and Psychiatrist has reported that she is physically and mentally fit” The letter issued by Government of Pakistan dated July 24, 2015, also adds “On 30.06.2015, Superintendent, Women Jail, Multan has again been contacted to ascertain the latest health condition of Mst. Asiya Bibi, who has reported that the health condition of condemned prisoner is satisfactory. She is neither suffering from intestinal bleeding nor vomiting blood” Nazir Bhatti said “It was important that Interior Ministry of Government of Pakistan have notified about health of Asia Bibi nor that Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony because Jail facilities are under Interior Ministry and Government of Punjab therefore said note by Religious Affairs Ministry do not carry any legal justification. Moreover, situation of Prison Hospitals and medical facilities provided in it are not quite up to mark” Nazir Bhatti said that Asia Bibi is physically and mentally ill due to her solitary confinement and being prisoned hundreds of miles away from her home where her family members meet after long intervals and with difficulties due to issues of special visitation permissions by Punjab government. PCC Chief demanded formation of Independent Medical Board comprising of Specialists from Nishtar Medical College and Hospital Multan for examination of Blasphemy victim Asia Bibi immediately. Nazir Bhatti also demanded that Asia Bibi may be admitted to Hospital instead of Prison medication which can more damage her intestinal system.
