Allama Tahir Ashrafi statement on blasphemy law victims is surprising. Nazir Bhatti
Karachi: April 16, 2014. (PCP) Dr. Nazir S Bhatti, President of Pakistan Christian Congress PCC has expressed concern and surprise on statement of Allama Tahir Ashrafi appeared in section of media that “We cannot release blasphemers” in context to Christian behind bars on accusations of blasphemy in Pakistan.
Dr. Nazir Bhatti said “Allama Tahir Ashrafi is very enlighten Muslim cleric and Pakistani Christians will never forget his valuable support in Rimsha Masih case which proved later that a Down syndrome minor Christian girl was wrongfully accused under blasphemy charges in capital city of Islamabad but his recent statement not to release blasphemy accused victims is really surprising and needs clarification”
“The victims of blasphemy behind bars have denied defiling names of Prophet Mohammad and their cases are in courts and they deserve due right of justice and to be released while statement of Allama Tahir Ashrafi have hurt feeling of families of victims of blasphemy ” added Nazir Bhatti
After Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz PML (N) have come in power in Pakistan, the victim of blasphemy Sawan Masih from Lahore and Christian couple Shafqat Emmanuel- Shagufta Kasur were sentence to death, it was feared by Pakistani Christians that under pressure of Talban, the justice will not be ensure to falsely accused Christians on blasphemy. The appeal against death sentence of blasphemy victim Asia Bibi was deferred from Lahore High Court twice in a month seemed to be changing policy of justice towards blasphemy in Nawaz Sharif regime.
“Pakistani Christians still remember proposal of Allama Tahir Ashrafi in Islamic Ideology Council ICC to stop misuse of blasphemy laws which cause him strong opposition but it was shah of relief for Pakistani Christians that he presented their sentiment of such a high forum but suddenly such statement of Allama have hurt feelings of millions of Pakistani Christians” said Nazir Bhatti
PCC Chief urged Allama Tahir Ashrafi to clarify his recent statement appeared in national media on release of Christian blasphemy victims.
Dr. Nazir Bhatti said that blasphemy law in Pakistan is misused by Muslim extremists to settle scores and rivalries against religious minorities which must be stopped and we need support of Muslim clerics on it.
