PCC condemn death sentence of Sawan Masih on accusations of blasphemy
Karachi: March 29, 2014. (PCP) Pakistan Christian Congress PCC have strongly condemned death sentence to Sawan Masih on accusation of blasphemy by Additional District and Session Judge Lahore Mr.Choudhary Ghulam Murtaza on March 27, 2014, during trial in jail.
Sawan Masih, a Christian resident of Joseph Colony Lahore was accused of blasphemy on March 7, 2013, when a Muslim youth accused him of derogatory remarks against Muslim’s Prophet Mohammad during an argument among them after playing and drinking.
On pretext to blasphemy, the Muslim mob attacked Joseph Colony in Badami Bagh Lahore and set on fire more than hundred homes of Christians on March 9, 2013;
The Badami Bagh Police took Sawan Masih in protective custody and on pressure of Muslims charged him under 295 B and C Sections of Pakistan Penal Code. The police also arrested 36 Muslims on burning Christian homes, shops and a Church who were later released on bails from courts but Sawan Masih was sent under judicial custody to jail where his trial was conducted till verdict to death sentence.
The facts surfaced in Muslim mob attack on Joseph Colony that one Muslim parliamentarian of ruling Pakistan Muslim League (N) wanted to grab valuable land of Joseph Colony for commercial purposes and conspire blasphemy case of Sawan Masih to attack on Joseph Colony.
Dr. Nazir S Bhatti, President of Pakistan Christian Congress PCC said in a statement that justice is never ensured by courts toward Christians and same is happened in trial of Sawan Masih.
“Blasphemy law is like sword hanging on necks of religious minorities of Pakistan which is being misused by Muslim extremists to settle personal scores and business rivalries” said Nazir Bhatti
Dr. Nazir Bhatti demanded repeal of blasphemy law and appealed to USA and EU to condition aid to Pakistan on it.
